Armstrong Milling Acquires Essex Topcrop
Armstrong Milling Co Ltd is thrilled to announce the acquisition of Essex Topcrop Sales Limited, a leading Wild Bird Food, Specialty pet food Manufacturer and 3PL provider, based in Essex, Ontario. By bringing these two family-owned, multi-generational companies together, Armstrong continues to expand on its goal of providing its customers and consumers with a “One Stop Shop” for all things bird.
With the on-boarding of Essex Topcrop family of products and services, Armstrong has the capability of providing Wild Bird Seed, Suet, Treats, Feeders, Nectar, new Bird Baths and now Specialty Pet food including pet bird products (Budgies, Finches, Cockatiel and Parrots) and a full range of pet rodent small animal foods. Essex Topcrop has been a leader in the Canadian production of food for Small Animals such as Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Hamsters, Gerbils, Rats, and Mice, which will now be available to Armstrong’s customer base.
Started in 1963, owned and operated by three generations of the Brummell family since 1978, and currently headed up by Craig and Debbie Brummell, Essex Topcrop has served and provided employment to those in the Essex County area for over six decades. The current warehouse and office facilities will continue to operate to serve most of its customers moving forward. Craig and his wife and co-owner Debbie will join Armstrong in Senior Sales and Supply Chain roles. In addition, utilizing the expanded resources of the Armstrong family, Essex Topcrop will look to expand its capabilities as a 3PL importer/distributor for other Pet Manufacturer’s products to Pet Specialty and FDM Retailers and other Armstrong customers.
Launched in 1986 by Ken Zantingh and brothers Larry and Doug Murphy, Armstrong has grown to be the leading Manufacturer of Wild Bird Food in Canada and recently expanded distribution to customers in the USA. The team is committed to a seamless transition for Essex Topcrop customers, and will look to provide continued strong service levels and a dedication to quality. In addition, Armstrong will fold Essex Topcrop warehouse location into its SQF Quality Certification program.
