Celebrate National Bird Feeding Month

Birds in North America can have a very difficult time surviving the winter. That's why every February, at the height of the winter, we celebrate National Bird Feeding Month.

People of all ages can participate in National Bird Feeding Month. Learn more about the history of bird feeding and how we can help our feathery friends brave the elements.

Beat the Winter Blues

Birds make us feel better. Plain and simple. In fact, several recent studies prove that bird feeding and bird watching help lower levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. And with mental illness on the rise, reconnecting with nature is just what the doctor ordered.

Help Bird Populations

Over recent history, birds have perished at an alarming rate. In fact, more than 1 in 4 birds has disappeared since 1970. This is scary since birds keep nature’s ecosystems in check.

Want to help? Start by buying a bird feeder, and support the declining population by feeding the birds. You can also become a citizen scientist and participate in projects like the Great Backyard Bird Count.
